Recruited special guest speakers — endurance athlete Tom Jones to speak to the 9th grade boys & Mirror Mirror Foundation for the 9th grade girls
9th Grade Girls & Boys Assemblies – March 2014
COSTA MESA HIGH SCHOOL
One of our ASCA Student Standards requirements is to implement student programs that “Develop positive attitudes toward self as a unique and worthy person.” (Personal/Social Development Domain = PS: A1)
Toward that end, we are proposing two Tutorial Period assemblies to be held in March. These assemblies will act as ways to empower our 9th grade students who may be encountering social and emotional challenges during adolescence. Through programs like this, we can make a connection with our high risk population and catch early those who may need additional resources or emotional supports and help prepare them to face the challenges and to be successful in the critical, demanding academic years of 10th, 11th, & 12th grade.
These assemblies may also be a great opportunity to introduce Raul, the School Psychologist.
Both speakers are willing to come to CMHS free of charge. All we need to contribute is the venue and the students.
Girls Program, March 3 – Lyceum
Program: Mirror Mirror Foundatio
Topic: “Find Your Freedom! Discover the Amazing Person You were Born to Be!”
The Mirror Mirror Foundation received a grant to make 150 books available to be distributed to girls at Costa Mesa High School. Also, The book Mirror, Mirror on self-esteem and identity, was approved by NMUSD to hand out to girls at CMHS. The book helps young women understand their true value and how to unlock their potential. Some books have been distributed, but the majority are still waiting to be distributed to all the 9th grade girls. The speaker from the foundation will give a powerful and engaging presentation dealing with topics such as Peer Pressure and Body Discontentment
Boys Program, March 27 – Lyceum
